Danceworks is a set of four dance technique classes in three genres. Students take two ballet classes, a jazz, and tap class meeting twice weekly. As students develop strong ballet technique and progress through the program they are introduced to more challenging curriculum. Increased time is spent learning Jazz, deepening experience, knowledge, and technique. The tap curriculum progresses to include more intricate footwork and timing.

JLDC Dancers Preparatory Program trains upper school students to dance at the collegiate level or pre-professional level upon graduation. Core classes are taken along with elective and specialty classes geared to students ability and interest. Students finish as well-trained, well-rounded dancers and life-long movers and lovers of dance.

Hip Hop is a dynamic class teaching all the latest moves aimed at improving flexibility, balance, and coordination. Set to popular music in a fun, fast-paced setting, Hip Hop class helps develop a sense of rhythm, musicality and individual style.

A seminar class designed for beginner/intermediate dancers who wish to study technique in four dance styles: ballet, contemporary, jazz, and hip hop. Students study fundamentals of each dance technique while refining skills. Hip Hop will improve sense of rhythm and coordination. Contemporary builds on classical ballet and jazz technique enhances movement vocabulary and uncovers powers of self-expression. TDC is great for dancers who can commit to a weekly intensive class and enjoy working as a cohort for both class and performance.

AcroDance is the fusion of classic dance technique with the precision and athleticism of tumbling. Acrobatic training teaches flexibility, balance, strength, muscle control, and above all, discipline and concentration. With our careful, quality instruction, dancers will gain more flexibility, upper body strength, and special awareness providing a substantial advantage in today’s demanding choreography.

Shawn Mahoney began his ballet, tap, and jazz training at the Joanne Langione Dance Center and his early performing career with Jose Mateo’s Ballet Theatre in Boston, MA. As an apprentice, Shawn danced for American Ballet Theatre before joining Boston Ballet. At Boston Ballet, Shawn performed in Petipa, Balanchine, Kylian, Forsythe, Bejart and others. Shawn performed as a chosen member of “Tharp!”, a national and international touring company directed by Twyla Tharp. Ms. Tharp invited Shawn to be part of the creative and choreographic process for her Broadway hit “Movin’ Out” and performed in Tharp’s “Red, White, and Blues”. Shawn performed with the Suzanne Farrell/Balanchine Project, Sean Curran Company, Washington Ballet, and Bale Estado de Goias. As an educator, Shawn has taught internationally for Festa de Danca in Sao Paulo and Bermuda Civic Ballet. Currently, Shawn is on faculty at Emerson College, instructing dance classes to actors and musical theatre students and is a teacher and lecturer at Days in the Arts. Shawn founded Mahoney Agency, representing dancers for national engagements for the Nutcracker Ballet. Shawn is a sought out mentor for emerging artists and choreographers in ballet and contemporary dance.
