Since opening in 1976, JLDC has provided exceptional dance training to students of all ages in Newton and the greater Boston area. Our mission remains:

Expert Faculty & Comprehensive Training
Our faculty brings artistry, enthusiasm, and expertise to every class, teaching all levels and ages. JLDC teachers are active performers, choreographers, and educators who provide a well-rounded dance experience. With specialized and advanced training in their genre, our instructors tailor lessons to challenge and inspire each student. Most recently, veteran teacher Amanda Conroy was promoted to Director of Student Development, focusing on student success, mentorship, and class placement.
“My new role as Director of Student Development focuses on creating a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes student success, and overall well-being. I want to make sure all students are engaged and love the art form of dance. Another responsibility is ensuring that all students are placed in the appropriate level of classes which is crucial for their success and overall dance experience. I will also be mentoring new teachers and teaching them how to contribute to the growth and success of the next generation of dancers. By doing so, it will hopefully enrich the dance education experience for students and contribute to the overall excellence of JLDC.”

A Tailored Curriculum for Every Age and Stage
Starting at the youngest age of 6 months, JLDC offers a variety of classes including Playdance, Kidzhop Fit and Tumble, Ballet, HipHop, Jazz, Tap and Contemporary. We also have adult ballet in partnership with the City of Newton Parks and Recreation Department. Our carefully structured programs ensure that students develop solid technical foundations while moving through our program year after year in a challenging and supportive environment. Our program is flexible and customizable to each dancer’s interests and level of commitment. In 2024 we upgraded our AcroDance equipment and teacher training to provide advanced instruction in tumbling.
We also introduced theDANCELAB, an individualized training program focused on flexibility, technique, and strength, helping students refine their leaps, turns, and overall performance quality through targeted conditioning exercises and private lessons.
Performances & Community Engagement
JLDC’s family-friendly performances are an essential part of our philosophy, allowing students to showcase their skills and build confidence. With age-appropriate choreography, costumes and professional staging, our performances highlight the hard work and growth of our dancers. Our annual Winter Concert and Hip Hop Show, along with our Spring Recital, provide students with invaluable performance experience and a chance to celebrate their progress with friends and family.
