Welcome to the JOANNE LANGIONE DANCE CENTER. Please take a moment to review the enrollment guidelines and customer service policies.

POLICIES 2023-24

A Registration Fee of $40.00 per student is collected annually. Concert/Recital costume fees are collected at time of enrollment which begins each year on March 15th.

Remittance: Annual tuition may be paid in full, or by installment through a payment plan for accounts over $1,500 with Master or Visa Debit/Credit Cards. Checks for payment in full are accepted.

Remittance for session- based classes and special events are due in full upon registration. 

Payment Plan: Annual tuition may be paid monthly by request beginning at the time of registration.  Subsequent payments are debited on the 1st of every month through December 1st, 2023.  

Withdrawals: To achieve maximum benefit and progress, student programs run Sept- June. Should the need arise, student withdrawal is received in writing to ensure that it is confirmed, and administration is updated. Since all JLDC classes are self-sustaining any unpaid balance upon withdrawal shall remain payable in full. 

Refunds: Prior to September 1st student withdrawals receive full tuition refund less registration fee. After September 1st tuition is non-refundable.  Exceptions will be made with a doctor’s note for medical withdrawal. Approved refunds issued back to the VISA or Mastercard furnished are non-transferrable and expire within one year of issue date. Session-based and special events are non-refundable.

Make-up Classes: Classes missed due to illness, injury, snow day, etc., are made up in an appropriate class by appointment through JLDC reception.    

Performances: JLDC holds School for Excellence and Hip Hop Shows mid-winter and all school short recitals in the spring. Notification that your child will not be available to perform in the Winter Concert should be given in writing before October 1st for the Winter performances and before November 1st for Spring Recitals. Tickets for all performances cannot be exchanged or refunded. All patrons ages 2 and older must have a ticket to the performance.

Late Fees: We will try to reach families whose accounts have fallen behind. *However, we regret that late fees will be debited to accounts outstanding after the 1st of the month. Accounts that fall behind past Dec. 1st, 2023, may jeopardize your child’s participation in any Joanne Langione Dance Center program or production.

*Late Fees: To best keep accounts active, we ask that payment plan clients inform the school of any address or debit/credit card changes or the possibility of a declined card prior to the 1st, of the month.

Ongoing Enrollment: JLDC annual season runs from September to June offering prorated tuition throughout the year. Some exceptions apply.

Teacher Assignments: Teacher class assignments are not finalized prior to the opening of the school year and are subject to change. 

Class Cancellation: On rare occasions, under-subscribed classes will be cancelled at the discretion of JLDC, at which time an appropriate class approved by parents and the school will be offered.

Photo Release: By registering for classes, I grant Joanne Langione Dance Center (JLDC) and its agents permission to use my or my child’s/children’s likeness in a video/photograph or other digital reproduction for any legal use, including but not limited to: publicity, copyright purpose, illustration, advertising, social media, and web content without payment or other consideration.

Copy of Student Waiver & Release of Liability 
In consideration of the dance lessons afforded to me under this agreement with the JOANNE LANGIONE DANCE CENTER, INC., and in recognition of the physically strenuous nature of dancing, I hereby knowingly, freely and voluntarily waive any right of cause of action of any kind whatsoever, arising as a result of such activity by my child and agree to hold harmless and indemnify JOANNE LANGIONE DANCE CENTER, INC., and its employees or agents, from any liability, costs or expenses (including but not limited reasonable attorney’s fees) which may or could arise from such activities. 

JLDC will not be liable for any failure or delay in performing an obligation under this agreement that is due to any of the following causes, to the extent beyond its reasonable control: act of God, accident, riots, war, terrorist act, epidemic, pandemic, quarantine, civil commotion, breakdown of communication facilities, breakdown of web host, breakdown of internet service provider, natural catastrophes, governmental acts or omissions, changes in laws or regulations, national strikes, fire, explosion, generalized lack of availability of raw materials or energy. 

COVID-19
JLDC has put in place preventative measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19; however, JLDC cannot guarantee that you or your child(ren) will not become infected with COVID-19. By registering for classes, I acknowledge the contagious nature of COVID-19 and voluntarily assume the risk that my child(ren) and myself may be exposed to or infected by COVID-19 by attending JLDC and that such exposure or infection may result in personal injury, illness, permanent disability, and death. I understand that the risk of becoming exposed to or infected by COVID-19 at JLDC may result from the actions, omissions, or negligence of myself and others, including, but not limited to, JLDC employees, volunteers, and program participants and their families. I voluntarily agree to assume all of the foregoing risks and accept sole responsibility for any injury to my child(ren) or myself (including, but not limited to, personal injury, disability, and death), illness, damage, loss, claim, liability, or expense, of any kind, that I or my child(ren) may experience or incur in connection with my child(ren)’s attendance at JLDC or participation in JLDC programming (“Claims”). On my behalf, and on behalf of my children, I hereby release, covenant not to sue, discharge, and hold harmless JLDC, its employees, agents, and representatives, of and from the Claims, including all liabilities, claims, actions, damages, costs or expenses of any kind arising out of or relating thereto participation in any JLDC program. 

I understand there is a possibility that in-studio classes, performances, competitions and other programs may be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic or related causes. I understand JLDC will make every effort within reason to provide alternative opportunities (including but not limited to online learning). I understand that JLDC is not obligated to refund or credit tuition and related fees.

Shawn Mahoney

Shawn Mahoney began his ballet, tap, and jazz training at the Joanne Langione Dance Center and his early performing career with Jose Mateo’s Ballet Theatre in Boston, MA. As an apprentice, Shawn danced for American Ballet Theatre before joining Boston Ballet. At Boston Ballet, Shawn performed in Petipa, Balanchine, Kylian, Forsythe, Bejart and others. Shawn performed as a chosen member of “Tharp!”, a national and international touring company directed by Twyla Tharp. Ms. Tharp invited Shawn to be part of the creative and choreographic process for her Broadway hit “Movin’ Out” and performed in Tharp’s “Red, White, and Blues”. Shawn performed with the Suzanne Farrell/Balanchine Project, Sean Curran Company, Washington Ballet, and Bale Estado de Goias. As an educator, Shawn has taught internationally for Festa de Danca in Sao Paulo and Bermuda Civic Ballet. Currently, Shawn is on faculty at Emerson College, instructing dance classes to actors and musical theatre students and is a teacher and lecturer at Days in the Arts. Shawn founded Mahoney Agency, representing dancers for national engagements for the Nutcracker Ballet. Shawn is a sought out mentor for emerging artists and choreographers in ballet and contemporary dance.
